Mr. Personality

Every day I am amazed at this little man. In just the past week alone, his little personality has just blossomed! He's such a smiley little guy and, like his daddy, knows when to turn the charm on and off! ;)

Have no fear Nester family - he has got some of my personality in him! The temper...when he's not smiley, he's the polar opposite - mad, as serious as he can be, or pouty. And let me tell you, he's perfected the pout just as good, if not better than his smile! As soon as I catch that on the camera, I'll be sure to post it. You can't help but laugh when he sticks out that bottom lip, it's so darn cute!

We're anxiously awaiting James's arrival and looking forward to his 18 days of R&R! We'll be busy, so probably no posts until after he goes back, but I'm sure we'll have lots of pictures and stories after that!

Look at that beautiful smile!

Kemper's First Hickey...

And no, I'm not kidding. He has given himself a hickey. He LOVES, LOVES, LOVES to suck on his hands, and lately, he's moved to sucking on his arm. Well, I thought nothing of it because he enjoys it and he is content (without the paci too!) so I never tried to stop him. Pops (Jerry) noticed that he was sucking on his arm for an extended period of time while he was holding him and pulled his arm away. Lo and behold, a hickey! So, I supposed we have another first to add to the baby book...his first hickey at the ripe old age of 6 and a half weeks old!! HA!

In other good news, Daddy is coming home VERY soon and we're both super excited! We're planning on having Kemper baptised on the 8th of June once James gets here and we're excited because we'll get to spoil Daddy on his first Father's Day!!

I apologize...

I apologize for not updating sooner!

After waiting all day Friday for the doctor to call with the results, I finally called around 4:30 only to find out that his doctor was off. I spoke with an on call nurse who left a message for the pediatrician on call to get back with me concerning his ultrasound. Finally, around 7:30 Friday night, his nurse called to let us know that the ultrasound was normal! YAY!!

She just said that he was a spitter and it would be more of a laundry problem that he would eventually grow out of. We've all gotten very good at keeping a burp cloth on hand, and an extra shirt in the diaper bag!

Kemper was 6 weeks old yesterday - he's getting so big!! He's started to coo and babble and gets very excited and smiley when he realizes that he made the noise!

Happy Kemper!

Ultrasound update

Well, the ultrasound went well and Kemper did very good considering we starved the poor thing! He ate at 3am and then not again til 9am...needless to say, he was NOT happy with me this morning. I don't think he quite understood why he couldn't eat seeing as how he slept good last night, woke up happy, got his diaper changed and then, when it was time to eat, we put him in his carseat! Wait, what happened? Why no food?!

He slept almost the whole way to Lynchburg (but Grandma Rita rode in the back with him just in case he had a hunger meltdown) and stayed relatively calm for a bit while we waited. Once they finally called us back (before another patient waiting, I think they were tired of listening to him cry), things went okay and after a bit, he finally calmed down. The tech was having a hard time seeing what she needed to see due to excess gas in his belly (geez, we knew he was gassy, but apparently today, thanks to the crying, it was worse!) and had to get another tech to help. They even tried giving him sugar water to calm him as well as to help them see things moving through his stomach but he was not having that sugar water. I even resorted to pulling the medicine dropper out of the first aid kit in my diaper bag (see, carrying everything including the kitchen sink pays off) and we *thought* he was drinking it, but when we picked him up, we realized he had been letting it dribble out of the corner of his mouth. Finally, the doctor said that he had a clear enough picture and we were done. (Of course, they couldn't tell us what they saw, we have to wait for the radiologist to read it, and then send the results to his pediatrician...ugh!)

I redressed him, picked him up off the table and he cuddled right to me. The tech walked us out, and he kept his eye on her the whole time...I think he was afraid she'd start torturing him again! I fed him right away, and he ate like he had never eaten before then fell asleep and slept the whole way back to Bedford. I'll let you know what the results are when we find out, but for now, enjoy some "Vintage Kemper" pics!

See his racoon eyes from the bili lights?

With Dr. Martin who delivered him

Oh me, oh my

Well, I think we've got what they call a Happy Spitter on our hands. If you're gonna hold the little cutie, it's important to either have a burp cloth or change of clothes for yourself handy. However, as a precautionary measure, his doctor is sending him for a stomach ultrasound tomorrow morning to check for a condition called pyloric stenosis. I'll save you the long explanation of what that is and just say that if he does have it, it will require a minor surgery to "relax" the flap that lets food from the stomach into the intestines.

The hardest part about tomorrow is going to be that he has to be food free for four hours prior to the ultrasound. Now, if you know our little piggy at all, you'll know that this is not going to make for a happy morning. His appointment is at 8am so his 3:30 feeding will be his last until after the procedure. Grandma Rita will be going with us so hopefully between the two of us, we will be able to keep him occupied and somewhat content.

Hopefully we'll get a good report from the radiologist tomorrow (wishful thinking that we'll get the results relatively soon?!) and then we'll just stock up on laundry detergent and bibs!
Enjoy the new pics!

1 Month Well Baby Check-up

Kemper did great at his appointment with Dr. Fenton today! He didn't even whimper when she examined him and finally let her get a peek of those beautiful baby blues! :)

Kemper now weighs 10lbs 13oz (75% percentile) and is 22 1/4 inches long (75%-90% percentile). Dr. Fenton said that this was perfect and right on track for where he should be. Next month, we'll be going back for his 2 month check-up and he'll get his first shots (poor baby has to get 3 shots and one oral vaccine). We're hoping Daddy will be home to go with us to that appointment (hmm, wonder if it's to comfort Kemper or Mommy...???)!
